Software-defined data center (SDDC), software-defined networking (SDN), software-defined storage (SDS). They’re not just marketing terms. They are categories of solutions that fit under the software-defined everything umbrella, where infrastructure components are software-controlled or automated by programmable software.

Software-defined solutions don’t stop at the infrastructure plumbing, however. What’s next is to control the software-defined world in an automated way via software, leveraging the automation introduced at the compute, storage and network layers.
