The evolution of hybrid computing has led to some of the most exciting innovations in both the technology and the business outcomes we gain as a result. The industry has widely understood and embraced the value of automation in getting to a more effective state of IT to drive the best results for your business organization.
AI Ops is a relatively new sector of innovation which goes beyond traditional scripting and orchestration to a truly AI-powered infrastructure which moved from process automation to decision automation. This new area of IT has been dubbed AI Ops by Gartner and others and is truly the next generation of where data center and cloud operations must get to in order to fully unlock the potential of technology and innovation.
We are proud to be leading the charge towards AI Ops at Turbonomic as we have been since the dawn of the company in 2009. Both in our platform, and in the practices we are enabling in our customers around the world. With the AI-powered Turbonomic platform, customers are able to empower the IT organization to embrace trustworthy, full-stack automation, and get back to the business of innovation. This is the new opportunity for evolving IT Ops.
Turbonomic and the AI Ops Evolution
Challenges in traditional IT have been very effectively laid out within a recent Gartner Report, in which Turbonomic is named as a platform delivering on the promise of AI Ops. Here are some key notes from on the some of the challenges faced today:
1. Business leaders are inundated with hype of AI without technical guidance and proof on how it can deliver inside the data center
2. Individual AI technologies lack data center level insights
3. Rapid change and increasing complexity make the tool selection difficult in many cases
As noted by our CTO, Charles Crouchman:
“There is a continuous growth in availability of underlying technologies, which highlights the lack of products which can truly deliver a unified platform which solves the problems of accelerating the intelligent self-managing datacenter. Adding in hybrid cloud makes the challenge even more unsolvable with products in the marketplace today.”
This has created a chasm which operations teams are attempting to cross with traditional processes, but that just isn’t able to scale, nor does it actually solve the multi-dimensional challenges that a real-time system needs to be able to. Charles appropriate notes that “This gap results from the lack of the right abstraction across multiple infrastructure layers which has not been the focus of incumbent vendors. Having a higher-level abstraction and a holistic data center view is part of a solution set to gain better insights and understanding which opens the door for an intelligent platform to bring these insights together. ”
The problems that Turbonomic is solving begin with these very clear objectives which are top of mind for every CIO and CTO today:
- Safely increasing infrastructure utilization – how can we eliminate infrastructure as the cause of performance degradation without overprovisioning?
- Accelerate consolidation and refresh projects – this must be done intelligently, and through the use of AI-driven automation and a common decision engine
- Improve IT staff productivity – remove the need for human intervention, and automate decision making in day-to-day operations
These apply to public cloud, containers, Platform-as-a-Service, and throughout the entire IT stack and lifecycle.
