During the webinar we polled attendees regarding their environment and IT operations. The first question we posed to attendees focused on the number of hypervisors in use in their environment. While 84% of attendees (N=133) are using VMware as their primary hypervisor, we learned that 44% of respondents (N=66) are using more than one hypervisor—with 12% using more than three!
Given this added layer of complexity in virtualized infrastructure, it’s important to consider unified operational control across heterogeneous hypervisors and cloud platforms. VMTurbo Operations Manager delivers integrated support for controlling workloads running in heterogeneous hypervisor environments via a single solution and unified view. Our support for leading virtualization and cloud platforms, including VMware ESX/vSphere and vCloud Director, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and CloudStack is enhanced in version 3.3 with support for VMware ESX/vSphere and vCloud Director 5.1, Hyper-V 2012 and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.1.
Another poll question probed the percentage of the day spent troubleshooting and firefighting (i.e., dealing with issues in a reactive mode). What we learned from respondents (N=60) is that a little more than one-third (35%) spent half or more than half of their day in reactive mode, another one-third (37%) spent one-quarter of their day troubleshooting issues, and nearly one-quarter (23%) couldn’t even estimate how much time they were engaged in firefighting activities, but they knew that it was too much time.
The keystone of Operations Manager’s value is its ability to simplify IT operations and maintain virtual infrastructure in a “healthy” state … and eliminate firefighting. Our control system assures application performance while utilizing the infrastructure as efficiently as possible. We can transform IT operations from complex, time- and labor-intensive, reactive, and unpredictable to simple, automated, preventive, and efficient. With Operations Manager, our customers ensure consistent service delivery and reduce both capital and operational costs of running virtual data centers.
Our founder and CTO Shmuel Kliger and co-founder and VP of product strategy Yuri Rabover dove into these issues of simplicity and control in our webcast. I invite you to view the webinar playback and tell us what you think.
