Working with a Sense of Urgency
Turbonomic is currently in the middle of a major hyper-growth phase. For us, this means we all need to have a sense of urgency in our work. You’re likely wondering, ‘what do you mean by urgency?’ What we’re really getting at with this is ‘are you out to prove something to yourself or someone else?’ This would indicate that you have a strong motivation around goal setting and over-achievement in your work or daily life. Why is this important to us? Like I mentioned, technology evolves fast and we’ve got to stay ahead of the curve.
Urgency in Sales
In a sales capacity, this translates to the drive our team must have with staying focused on our goals and selling an ‘un-budgeted’ line item to our prospects and customers, which is no easy task. It takes a lot of education, value pitching and a good amount of convincing from the bottom up and the top down within your accounts. You’re selling transformation (and that’s not just a buzzword here). We need to continue our fast growth, and the only way to do that is to have a sales team with a sense of urgency behind everything they’re doing. Urgency in R&D
In an engineering capacity, ‘sense of urgency’ is important for various reasons, but a main reason is that we’re in a highly competitive market (with a uniquely differentiated product) – much thanks to our R&D team for allowing us to stand out from the crowd. But we can’t be comfortable sitting still. We need our R&D team to be coming up with innovative ideas and features that will keep us ahead. Urgency Across All Functions
In all other capacities, the idea of having a sense of urgency is much the same. If the processes we’re building, the campaigns we’re creating or the support we’re giving don’t revolve around a sense of urgency, then we will be disappointing customers, partners, prospects and fellow colleagues. We’re in the middle of a transformative time in our industry and we have the perfect storm of opportunity to capitalize on, but it must all be done with a sense of urgency behind it.
