Improving Health & Wellness for a High Performance Culture

It’s safe to say that if you maintain good health, you’ll perform better physically and mentally. When working in tech, it becomes even more important to maintain good health, mainly because the speed things often move. I personally find that my evening jogs, healthy meals and the occasional yoga sessions give me clarity and sharper focus on what I need to execute on – both in my personal life and at work.

Turbonomic continues to improve its offerings in terms of benefits/perks for the health-conscious employees here. Let’s dive into a few of the improvements and initiatives going on here at Turbonomic that contribute to a healthier workplace.

Healthier Free Snack Options

Over the years, Turbonomic has listened to employee requests for healthier snacks and food options in the office and delivered on their commitment to have better options. What exactly are we talking here? We’ve added a range of fruits for the morning, trail mix and nuts, healthy granola bars, almond butter and peanut butter for the whole-30 dieters. When our bi-weekly company meeting rolls around, we always have options that are gluten-free, or low carb – so everyone has something they can have.

New Classes and Programs

Recently we started rolling out new classes for our employees that are not only good for staying fit, but also great for getting together with co-workers you might not see on a daily basis. In our Boston HQ we’re hosting our first free Vinyasa Yoga Class on June 7th and it’s open to all employees, both experienced and new to yoga. More of these classes will be launched in our other offices as well, so keep an eye out.

In addition to in-house classes, we offer gym memberships. Some employees wake up early and hit the gym before work, while others use time during the lunch hour to head across the street to the gym. Sometimes employees lead their own group outings that have included 5k’s, bike races, and kickboxing classes. We’re continuing to launch new wellness programs, so if you have an idea – reach out!

JP Morgan Corporate Challenge

For the past two years, groups of employees in our Boston HQ have teamed up for the annual JP Morgan Corporate Challenge Race, which promotes corporate health and wellness among employees. It’s a 5k race and is a great team activity for everyone to get together, compete to win and celebrate after the race.

BlueCross Wellness Challenge

This year we launched our first ever Wellness Challenge in partnership with BlueCross BlueShield. Essentially employees signed up, created their own teams and worked together to log all their activity over the course of two months. The goal was to reach at least 900 minutes of activity per employee, but our employees who participated ended up with an average of 2,000 minutes each! As for the reward? We rewarded the winning team with gift cards and the second-place team with fitbits.

As we continue to grow and improve our culture here at Turbonomic, we will have plenty of more programs related to health and wellness in addition to continuously looking for newer and healthier snack options to keep our employees happy, focused and healthy.
